President-elect Donald Trump kicked off trading at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in his comeback. The occasion also celebrated his second recognition as Time magazine’s Person of the Year, a title he previously earned in 2016.
Before ringing the bell, Trump addressed the crowd, calling the honor from Time magazine “even better the second time.” He expressed optimism about his upcoming presidency, highlighting his administration's plans to streamline federal permits for major projects worth over $1 billion and address global challenges.
Accompanied by his wife, Melania, daughters Ivanka and Tiffany, and Vice President-elect JD Vance, Trump took center stage as chants of “USA” erupted from the audience. The NYSE event, his first as a New Yorker, featured his favored song, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” playing in the background. Time magazine’s cover showcasing Trump was prominently displayed on the exchange wall.

Time’s editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs, described Trump as the individual with the greatest impact on the news in 2024, “for better or worse.” He praised Trump’s historic return to the presidency and his influence on reshaping American politics.
During an interview with the magazine, Trump reflected on his “72 Days of Fury” campaign, which he credits for resonating with the anger of the American public and securing his decisive victory.
While at the NYSE, Trump used the opportunity to praise his team’s appointments, including Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent. He reiterated his commitment to pardoning individuals convicted in the January 6 Capitol riot and emphasized the importance of loyalty within his administration.

In a CNBC interview after the bell-ringing, Trump hinted at potential workforce reductions in the federal government, drawing parallels to his reality TV days on The Apprentice.
Trump’s political dynasty also came into focus, with discussions about the future of his “Make America Great Again” movement. He hinted at the political potential of his family members, including his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who may explore a Senate bid in the future.
The NYSE bell-ringing ceremony is a tradition often extended to notable figures in business, culture, and politics. For Trump, it served as another moment to cement his influence as he prepares to take office once more.
